Bernhardinkoirayhdistys
ry is the official Finnish saint bernard dog club. It
works as a member club of the
Finnish Kennel Club.
Bernhardinkoirayhdistys was founded in 1975 and it has
been the official breed club of saint bernard dogs since
1986. In the end of the year 2007 it had 240 members.
Bernhardinkoirayhdistys
organizes different kinds of events like annual
Specialty Dog Show and summer/ winter camps for saint
bernards and their owners. The club publishes a
membership magazine called "Bernhardinkoira" (Saint
Bernard). It is issued four times a year. The club also
publishes annual year book of saint bernard dogs
("Vuosikirja").

details for the membership fee. Membership fee for the
year 2008 is 25 euros.
Saint
bernard dogs in Finland
First longhaired saint
bernard dogs were brought to Finland in 1883. Breeding
begun in the 1930's and 1940's. First breeding dogs were
mainly from Great Britain, but some were from
Switzerland. First short-haired saint bernard dog was
brought to Finland in 1978 and breeding of short-haired
dogs was started in the beginning of 1980's. In the
course of years saint bernard dogs have been brought to
Finland from eg. Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark,
Norway, Estonia, Great Britain, United States and
Austria. From the year 1989 to 1994 saint bernard dogs
were very popular in Finland and even more than 580 dogs
were registered every year. In 2007 more than 100 saint
bernard dogs were registrated in Finland, 10 of them
being imported from abroad.
